Oconomowoc is a community of affluent families and young professionals. The town is very close-knit and welcoming to visitors and newcomers. Residents of Oconomowoc enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. The area has dozens of lakes and 33 parks that provide fishing, boating, kayaking, and picnicking opportunities. In winter, the activities transition to ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, hockey, and sledding.

Oconomowoc and the surrounding Lake Country are home to many fine dining establishments. 

Sobie’s is a farm-to-table restaurant located in downtown Oconomowoc. The restaurant has a menu of comfort foods and delicious cocktails. Coco’s Seafood and Steak House is the place to go for fine dining, premium steaks, and fresh seafood. An evening at Bella Gusto is like an evening in Tuscany. The restaurant features authentic Italian fare, Old World decor, an Italian deli, and a unique market of Italian specialty items. A list of great restaurants in Oconomowoc would not be complete without Maxim’s. The restaurant is housed in an old historic railroad station house and offers indoor and outdoor seating, including a dining area in an old train car.  For dessert, stop by the Golosi Gelato Cafe for delicious gelato, then go for a stroll along the boardwalk. 

For a memorable night on the town with friends, why not take a tour of downtown with the Oconomowoc Pedal Tavern. This bar-shaped bike takes patrons on a tour of historic Oconomowoc and stops at two local watering holes for drinks. For a little more culture in your entertainment, The Oconomowoc Arts Center hosts film series, Cabaret dinner shows, a comedy series, and other cultural events.

Oconomowoc takes pride in supporting small local businesses. The historic downtown area features many locally curated shops and boutiques where patrons can find custom jewelry, designer clothing, unique works of art, and other specialty items.

Things to Do

Living in the heart of Lake Country gives residents access to many outdoor recreational activities. The lakes and parks provide everything needed for hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing, and relaxing afternoons out on the water. The Lake Country Trail extends 15 miles between Oconomowoc and Waukesha and is utilized by cyclists, joggers, and skaters. Fowler Lake Park is a popular community gathering place with playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic shelters, and fishing. The park is also the site of Moonlit Movies. The Oconomowoc City Beach is the site of Bands at the Beach, featuring live musical performances at the bandshell. 

The area also hosts a summertime Farmers’ Market, an annual Chili Fest, Village Green Beer Gardens, and ladies' night Sip - Shop - Stroll. Golf enthusiasts are minutes from many excellent golf courses, including Oconomowoc Golf Club, Paganica Golf Course, The Club at Lac La Belle, and the Naga-Waukee War Memorial Golf Course.
